6 Top Tactics You Don’t Want to Use When Promoting Your Website

001_43

This is definitely not a good way to promote your website. The most possible ending for your website is it will be banned forever by search engines. What exactly is spam? It is a term referring to unsolicited email and postings on the Internet. Usually, messages that falls under spam category refer to those sent to promote products, services and even get-rich-quick schemes, and the senders do not have permission from the recipients. They are also known as unsolicited, bulk or junk emails.

There are characteristics that search engine look for in a website to determine whether to classify it as spam or not:

Hidden text

This used to be an effective way, but this has been banned ever since it was fully exploited by certain entertainment industry. This technique involves hiding a text in the background by creating a text with the same colour as the background. It will become invisible to the viewers but search engines will be able to detect those.

Redundant text

If the search engines found out that the contents of your website do not match the topics of the website, they will put your website under spam listing. If this type of characteristic is repeated throughout the whole website, it is most likely that the search engines will ban your website.

Keyword repetition

A website with too much repeated words will be considered a spam. Although there is no rule for the number of times a word can be used in the content, each word used must be relevant to the topic. In the body of the content, each word used must have a reasonable excuse for being present. For Meta tags, unnecessary repetition of specific words in the keywords Meta tag will most likely lose the website its ranking in search engine listing and is considered spam.

Duplicate content

Search engines hate duplicate contents. The first ones to submit will have a higher advantage compared to later ones as search engines will consider the latter to be copycats.
Hidden links- this is another method banned by search engines. This involves hiding of links using a tiny and invisible image link because a large number of search engines work by following all links found on any page.

Auto-generator

Pages generated by instant page creators are mostly junks and the pages produced can be easily spotted by search engine spiders. This is more likely to get your website into troubles rather than promoting your website.

Cloaking

This is a highly advanced technique and cannot be used without the knowledge of the webmaster or website owner. Cloaking is the technique offering a set of date for search engine spiders and another set for human users.

Avoid using such methods as they will more likely to result in troubles rather than helping you. Simple websites with some effort will be able to promote your website.
