10 Things You Need to Check Before Your Site Get Rejected by Search Engines

001_60

When you are ready with your website, the next step is of course to submit it to search engines and directories. Before you do so, spend some time researching on the requirements set up by each of the search engines that you are intending to submit to. Follow the rules when you submit your website or risk the chance of getting your website rejected. There are articles available on the Internet regarding the submission rules by major search engines and even updates of the rules when they are available.

Some of the important rules in determining whether your website can be accepted by Google are

• The titles and description tags match the content. To play safe, the keyword Meta tag includes several common misspellings of a keyword. The best title is both descriptive of the content and readable by search engine spiders.

• Links that is readable by spiders. The links should be in text and every page must be reachable by at least a text link.

• Use text and not image to display important contents as the crawler cannot recognize a text within an image

• Make sure that the HTML is correct and there is not broken link.

• Keep the number of links in a single page to the minimal, less than 100 per page

• Avoid using session IDs or arguments because these can result in incomplete indexing of your website. These methods are useful if you want to track down the visitors’ path, but this is definitely not recommended as the bots are unable to eliminate URLs that look different but are of the same page.

• Check your website with text browsers such as Lynx before submitting because most search engine spiders see your website like what Lynx would.

• Your web server supports the If-Modified-Since HTTP header because this allows your server to inform Google if your website content has been modified since the last time it sent crawlers to the website.

• Tell the crawlers which directories that can or cannot be crawled using robots.txt file on the web server. Using the most compatible file for your website is critical because incompatible ones may block the crawlers. You can test it beforehand using the analysis tool made available by Google.

• Quality guidelines- this includes no usage of cheats or tricks such as hidden text and links, overloading of keywords or cloaking.

Why take the risk of getting your website banned or blacklisted just because you did not read the rules before submitting? Always read the requirements, adjust your website accordingly and if you follow the rules, your website will most probably be listed by the search engines. Read from reliable resources such as professional articles for tips and guidelines.
